In many cities around the world, empty lots and unused rooftops are being turned into community gardens. These shared spaces allow neighbors to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers together. The idea has become popular in the last ten years, especially in crowded neighborhoods where people have little or no access to a backyard. Community gardens offer more than just fresh food. They bring people together and create a sense of belonging. Garden members often share tools, seeds, and advice. Children who help in the gardens learn where food comes from and develop an interest in nature. Some studies also show that gardening reduces stress and improves mental health. However, urban gardens face challenges. City rules, rising land prices, and limited water supply can make it hard to keep a garden running. Many groups now work with local governments to protect garden spaces and create new ones. As cities grow larger, these green spaces may become even more important for community life.
