Discovering Street Food in Hanoi
Last summer, I took a trip to Hanoi with two friends. We had heard a lot about Vietnamese street food, but nothing prepared us for the real experience. On our first evening, we walked through the Old Quarter and saw many small food stalls along the street. The smell of grilled meat and fresh herbs filled the air.
We stopped at a small stall where an elderly woman was making banh mi. She smiled and invited us to try her sandwich. The bread was warm and crispy, and inside there was grilled pork, pickled vegetables, and chili sauce. It was simple but incredibly delicious. My friend Lily, who is usually a picky eater, finished hers in just a few minutes.
The next day, we joined a local food tour. Our guide, a young man named Minh, took us to hidden places that tourists rarely visit. We tried pho at a family-run restaurant that has served the same recipe for three generations. We also learned how to wrap fresh spring rolls at a cooking class. By the end of the trip, we all agreed that the food was the best part of our journey, even more memorable than the famous landmarks.
