Đề thi VSTEP Reading B2 — Decision Fatigue (mẫu r6)
The Hidden Cost of Too Many Choices
Every day, people make thousands of decisions, from what to eat for breakfast to which project to prioritize at work. While choice is generally considered positive, psychologists have discovered that making decisions repeatedly throughout the day can drain mental energy, a phenomenon known as decision fatigue.
Research shows that after long periods of decision-making, the brain's ability to make rational choices declines. Shoppers, for example, often make poorer purchasing decisions late in the day than they do in the morning. Similarly, judges are more likely to approve parole requests at the start of a session than near the end, when their mental resources are depleted.
The good news is that decision fatigue can be managed. Experts recommend reducing daily choices by establishing routines, such as wearing similar clothes or eating the same breakfast. Delegating smaller decisions and tackling complex problems early in the day also helps preserve mental clarity.
Recognizing the signs of decision fatigue—irritability, procrastination, and poor judgment—can empower individuals to structure their lives more efficiently.
