Từ dễ nhầm phần 3 — Từ nối và liên từ (Connectors)

Trong VSTEP B2, phần Use of English và Writing thường yêu cầu sử dụng chính xác các từ nối (connectors). Nhiều thí sinh nhầm lẫn giữa các từ nối có nghĩa tương tự nhưng cấu trúc ngữ pháp khác nhau.

Nhóm 1: Từ nối chỉ sự tương phản (Contrast)

although / though	liên từ	Although + S + V, S + V	mặc dù	Although it rained, we still went out.
despite / in spite of	giới từ	Despite + N/V-ing, S + V	mặc dù	Despite the rain, we still went out.
however	trạng từ nối	S + V. However, S + V	tuy nhiên	It rained heavily. However, we still went out.
but	liên từ	S + V, but S + V	nhưng	It rained, but we still went out.
whereas / while	liên từ	S + V, whereas S + V	trong khi	She likes coffee, whereas he prefers tea.
nevertheless	trạng từ nối	S + V. Nevertheless, S + V	tuy nhiên	The task was difficult. Nevertheless, she completed it.

Lỗi thường gặp:

SAI: Despite it rained, we went out. (despite + mệnh đề)
ĐÚNG: Despite the rain, we went out. (despite + danh từ)
ĐÚNG: Although it rained, we went out. (although + mệnh đề)
SAI: However it rained, we went out. (however không thay thế although)

Nhóm 2: Từ nối chỉ nguyên nhân - kết quả (Cause - Effect)

because of	giới từ	S + V because of + N/V-ing	bởi vì	She stayed home because of her illness.

so	liên từ	S + V, so S + V	nên	She was sick, so she stayed home.
as a result	cụm trạng từ	S + V. As a result, S + V	kết quả là	It rained all day. As a result, the match was cancelled.
due to	giới từ	Due to + N, S + V	do	Due to the bad weather, the flight was delayed.

Lỗi thường gặp:

SAI: Because of she was sick, she stayed home. (because of + mệnh đề)
ĐÚNG: Because of her sickness, she stayed home. (because of + danh từ)
SAI: Therefore she was sick, she stayed home. (therefore không đứng đầu mệnh đề nguyên nhân)

Nhóm 3: Từ nối chỉ sự bổ sung (Addition)

moreover / furthermore	trạng từ nối	S + V. Moreover, S + V	hơn nữa	He is smart. Moreover, he is hardworking.
in addition	cụm trạng từ	S + V. In addition, S + V	ngoài ra	She speaks English. In addition, she can speak French.
besides	giới từ/trạng từ	Besides + N, S + V	ngoài ... ra	Besides English, she also speaks French.
also	trạng từ	S + also + V	cũng	She also plays the piano.
as well as	liên từ	N + as well as + N	cũng như	He plays football as well as basketball.

Nhóm 4: Từ nối chỉ mục đích (Purpose)

for	giới từ	for + N / V-ing	cho, để	This tool is used for cutting wood.
