Word Formation — Tiền tố (Prefixes)

Tiền tố (prefix) là phần được thêm vào đầu một từ gốc để tạo từ mới có nghĩa khác. Nắm vững tiền tố giúp bạn đoán nghĩa từ mới trong bài đọc VSTEP mà không cần tra từ điển.

1. Tiền tố UN- (nghĩa: không, ngược lại)

2. Tiền tố DIS- (nghĩa: không, phủ định, ngược lại)

6. Tiền tố UNDER- (nghĩa: dưới mức, thiếu)

Mẹo ghi nhớ tiền tố

un- / dis-: cả hai đều mang nghĩa phủ định, nhưng un- thường đi với tính từ (unhappy, unfair), dis- thường đi với động từ (disagree, disappear).
mis-: luôn mang nghĩa "sai, nhầm" — khác với un-/dis- chỉ đơn thuần phủ định.
over- / under-: là cặp đối lập — overestimate (đánh giá quá cao) vs underestimate (đánh giá quá thấp).
pre-: nghĩ đến "prepare" (chuẩn bị trước) để nhớ nghĩa "trước".
re-: nghĩ đến "repeat" (lặp lại) để nhớ nghĩa "làm lại".
