Phần Listening (Nghe hiểu) là kỹ năng đầu tiên trong bài thi VSTEP, đánh giá khả năng nghe và hiểu tiếng Anh trong các tình huống giao tiếp thực tế. Đây là phần khiến nhiều thí sinh lo lắng nhất vì chỉ được nghe 1 lần duy nhất.

Chiến lược làm bài

1. Đọc câu hỏi trước khi nghe: Tận dụng thời gian hướng dẫn (instructions) để đọc trước câu hỏi và 4 đáp án. Gạch chân từ khóa quan trọng.
2. Nghe lần đầu là lần cuối: Tập trung tối đa, không phân tâm. Nếu lỡ câu nào, bỏ qua ngay và chuyển sang câu tiếp.
3. Ghi chú nhanh: Viết tắt thông tin quan trọng: số liệu, tên, thời gian, địa điểm.
4. Loại trừ đáp án: Nếu không chắc, loại bỏ 1-2 đáp án sai rồi chọn trong các đáp án còn lại.
5. Không bỏ trống: Luôn chọn một đáp án, không bị trừ điểm khi chọn sai.

Part 1 gồm 8 đoạn thông báo ngắn, mỗi đoạn chỉ 2-4 câu. Đây là phần dễ nhất nhưng cũng dễ mất điểm nếu không có kỹ thuật đúng. Dưới đây là 3 kỹ thuật cốt lõi giúp bạn đạt 7-8/8 câu đúng.

Kỹ thuật 1: Đọc câu hỏi trước khi nghe (Pre-reading)

Trước khi audio bắt đầu, bạn có khoảng 10-15 giây để đọc câu hỏi. Đây là thời gian vàng.

Cách thực hiện:

1. Đọc câu hỏi (question stem) trước, hiểu đề hỏi gì
2. Lướt nhanh 4 đáp án A/B/C/D, gạch chân từ khóa khác biệt
3. Dự đoán nội dung đoạn nghe sẽ nói về chủ đề gì

Ví dụ minh họa:

Câu hỏi: What should passengers do?
A. Go to Gate 5   B. Wait at the lounge   C. Check the screen   D. Contact the airline

Phân tích: Đề hỏi về hành động hành khách cần làm. Bối cảnh: sân bay. Khi nghe, tập trung vào mệnh lệnh hoặc hướng dẫn.

Kỹ thuật 2: Bắt từ khóa chính (Focus Keywords)

Đoạn thông báo rất ngắn, bạn không cần nghe hiểu từng từ. Chỉ cần bắt được từ khóa chính là đủ.

Các loại từ khóa cần bắt:

Kỹ thuật 3: Loại trừ đáp án sai (Elimination)

Khi không chắc đáp án đúng, hãy loại trừ các đáp án chắc chắn sai.

3 dấu hiệu đáp án sai:

1. Thông tin không được nhắc đến: Đáp án chứa thông tin hoàn toàn không xuất hiện trong đoạn nghe
2. Thông tin bị đảo ngược: Ví dụ đoạn nghe nói "mở cửa lúc 9h" nhưng đáp án ghi "đóng cửa lúc 9h"
3. Bẫy từ vựng: Đáp án dùng từ có trong đoạn nghe nhưng ý nghĩa khác hoàn toàn

Cách rèn luyện kỹ năng note-taking:

1. Nghe tin tức tiếng Anh 5 phút/ngày: BBC, CNN, VOA — ghi chú lại ý chính
2. Nghe podcast ngắn: Chọn podcast 2-3 phút, ghi chú rồi kể lại nội dung
3. Tự đọc to transcript: Đọc transcript ở tốc độ bình thường, bạn khác ghi chú

10 bẫy đáp án thường gặp trong Part 1 Listening VSTEP

Part 1 tưởng dễ nhưng có rất nhiều bẫy tinh vi. Hiểu rõ các dạng bẫy sẽ giúp bạn tránh mất điểm oan. Dưới đây là 10 loại bẫy phổ biến nhất.

3	Bẫy phủ định	Transcript: "Photography is allowed, but do not use flash." Đáp án bẫy: Photography is not allowed (nghe thấy "not" nhưng "not" chỉ áp dụng cho flash).	Nghe cả cụm, không chỉ nghe từ "not/no/don't". Xác định rõ cái gì bị phủ định.
4	Bẫy từ đồng âm/gần âm	Transcript nói "flour" (bột mì) nhưng thí sinh nghe thành "floor" (tầng); "write" nghe thành "right".	Dựa vào ngữ cảnh để phân biệt. Nếu đang nói về siêu thị, "flour" hợp lý hơn "floor".
5	Bẫy paraphrase (diễn đạt lại)	Transcript: "Ensure your apartment is accessible." Đáp án đúng: "Make sure your apartment can be entered." Thí sinh không nhận ra 2 cách nói cùng nghĩa.	Hiểu nghĩa, không chỉ nghe từ. Đáp án đúng thường diễn đạt lại, không lặp nguyên văn transcript.
6	Bẫy thông tin giữ nguyên vs thay đổi	Transcript: "The show moved indoors. Time remains at 7:30." Câu hỏi: What has changed? Đáp án bẫy: The time (thực tế giờ KHÔNG đổi).	Chú ý "remains", "unchanged", "as planned", "as scheduled" — đây là tín hiệu thông tin KHÔNG đổi.
7	Bẫy phạm vi áp dụng	Transcript: "Imported fruits are buy-2-get-1-free." Đáp án bẫy: All fruits are on sale (thực tế chỉ trái cây NHẬP KHẨU).	Chú ý các từ giới hạn: "only", "imported", "selected", "specific". Đừng mở rộng phạm vi.
8	Bẫy nguyên nhân vs hệ quả	Transcript: "Due to bad weather, flight delayed." Câu hỏi: What should passengers do? Đáp án bẫy: Check the weather (hỏi hành động, không hỏi nguyên nhân).	Đọc kỹ câu hỏi — hỏi WHY (nguyên nhân) hay WHAT (hành động/hệ quả). Trả lời đúng cái được hỏi.
9	Bẫy "tất cả" vs "một phần"	Transcript: "The pool is closed. The gym remains open." Đáp án bẫy: The entire fitness center is closed (chỉ hồ bơi đóng, không phải toàn bộ).	Chú ý: một bộ phận đóng cửa không có nghĩa là toàn bộ đóng cửa. Nghe kỹ chi tiết nào bị ảnh hưởng.
10	Bẫy thời điểm hành động	Transcript: "Sign up by Friday. Health checkup is next Wednesday." Câu hỏi: What must employees do by Friday? Đáp án bẫy: Complete the health checkup (đó là tuần sau, Friday chỉ là hạn đăng ký).	Phân biệt rõ thời điểm: deadline đăng ký khác với thời điểm sự kiện. Chú ý "by" (hạn chót) vs "on" (ngày diễn ra).

Mẹo chung để tránh bẫy

1. Đọc câu hỏi trước: Biết đề hỏi gì sẽ giúp tập trung vào thông tin cần thiết
2. Nghe cả câu, không nghe từng từ: Bẫy thường nằm ở việc tách từ ra khỏi ngữ cảnh
